Your questions, answered

How long is a typical custom trip?
Most of our guests in the past have chosen between 7 to 10 day tours (with 10 days appearing to be the most popular duration), although we have had tours of up to 30 days.  We will tailor the trip to the time you have available.

When is the best time to visit?
May–September offers longer days; shoulder seasons are calmer, but tend to offer greater value.

What budget should we expect?
Custom trips vary widely. A lot will depend on the number of guests, the choice of hotels, the activities you would like to visit and the duration of the tour. Once we know what you have in mind we will be able to outline the expected costs.

Can you accommodate mobility needs?
Yes—we’ll adapt routes, vehicles, rooms, and pacing to suit your needs, although unless you were specifically looking to engage in vigorous activities on your tour, the majority of our tour activities tend to be quite sedate and we have had guests in the mid-80's or with walking difficulties without any issues.

How far ahead should we book?
6–12 months is ideal for peak dates particularly for larger groups; we can help on shorter notice when possible.

Why are the costs per person for single room accommodation more expensive than twin/double rooms?
In general in Irish hotels, the costs of a single room tend to be very similar to the cost charged for a twin/double room, but with the twin/double, that room cost is shared between the two occupants. In some cases the difference can be as little as Euro €10 per night. This is because in many cases the hotels standardize on twin/double rooms, and a single room occupant can often find that their room contains a double-sized bed, or even in some cases, a second twin bed. Therefore, if you are coming on a tour as a single, and know someone who was also coming on the same tour as a single, and you did not mind sharing a twin room, you can both make substantial savings on your overall tour costs by taking that option.

Why are the costs per person on custom/private tours more expensive than those of group tours and what can be done to reduce those per person costs?
Every tour, big and small, has certain expenses that are required to bring the tour into existence. The most obvious ones are the cost of your transportation / fuel, your driver / guide salary for the duration of the tour, their accommodation / expenses while on the road with you, and administration costs directly related to your tour. If you have just two guests on a chauffeur drive tour then those fixed costs are divided between just two people, whereas on a bus tour where up to 40 guests can be sharing those costs, then the amount required from each person is a lot lower.  Therefore, in general, the more people you have on a specific tour, the lower their share of those fixed costs, which in turn lowers the overall cost of the tour for each person. (The only specific expense that may increase if the number of guests increases is the size of the transportation required, as you move from a car to a mini-bus, to a mid-range bus, to a large tour bus, but the increased numbers of guests that would justify the upgrade to a larger vehicle ensures that the overall transportation costs per person usually decreases).  So, if you have 3 or 4 guests in a chauffeur drive rather than 2, or 10 in a mini-bus rather than 5 etc, then you can reduce the overall cost for each guest on your tour.

What if our plans change?
We’ll explain terms clearly and work with suppliers to adjust where feasible. We would always recommend that when taking any vacation that involves international travel, that you consider taking out a suitable travel insurance policy that meets your requirements, and that would cover at a minimum things like flight delays / cancellations due to weather or unforeseen circumstances, lost baggage etc.
